As part of the starting a new journey, I had to reconfigure my personal laptop. Everything had to start from scratch — from the ISO image, to system installation, to configuration, to being fully functional. It wasn’t as easy as it seemed.

Especially when I realized that, even for some of the most common tools, I had to learn and install from scratch (or maybe I just hadn’t paid enough attention before).

Xiaojiu - My Cat

Introducing My Kitty - Xiaojiu

Who is he

Name: Xiaojiu

Birth: February 2022

Gender: Male

Personality: Lazy, sometimes gentle, sometimes grumpy, not very talkative

When the story started

It was a stray cat. On March 3, 2022, just one month old, it crawled into my car. From then on, it officially became a member of our family.

Its name comes from this special day—March 3rd. Unconsciously, it reminded me of “San San De Jiu (三三得九)” from the Chinese multiplication table《九九乘法表》.

Install WSL on Windows 11

Intro

WSL: Windows Subsystem for Linux

WSL is a tiny Linux VM embedded in Windows, default is Ubuntu.

Homepage: https://github.com/microsoft/WSL

One-Click Install (Online Install)

wsl --install

Issue:
wsl --install
is very slow, mainly because Microsoft’s overseas servers have poor bandwidth in China. Fastest solution: Offline manual install (domestic mirror download), done in a few minutes.

Manual Install (Offline Install)

Prerequisites

Windows 11 Home fully supports WSL2, no Hyper-V required. Just enable two system features, install the MSI you downloaded, and import the wsl image - works fully offline.

About Me

Bio
